Goodbye Circus Life!

By

On Good Friday, 2010, Noah’s Ark became home to three beautiful female tigers. These striped beauties had been part of a traveling circus, used to performing twice a day in between traveling from town to town. We received a call earlier that week from the owner. He decided to surrender the tigers and learned of Noah’s Ark’s stellar reputation. Staff went to see the tigers, the proper arrangements were made, and Shalimar, Suki and Sheila arrived very late Friday night. These girls are only five years old — just reaching maturity.  They currently reside in their original enclosure — the traveling circus cage and small performance “arena.” This is their comfort zone, and they are being acclimated into a larger habitat. Once funding becomes available, this habitat will be further enlarged to include access to the creek that flows nearby (tigers love water!). They are now in their forever home — no more traveling, no more performing. They get to live as naturally as possible for the rest of their lives here at Noah’s Ark.

That’s wonderful! Thank you, Noah’s Ark!

Who was their owner and hows long has it been since they performed in a circus? It’s wonderful that they can retire now. How long will it be before they have more space?

That’s great! So happy for these tigers! Noah’s Ark is such a great place! Thank you for ALL you do!

They belonged to a small traveling circus, and they stopped performing the day they came here — on Good Friday. We expect to release them into their larger habitat in the next few weeks. We have to make adjustments slowly, as they are used to a very small area and we have to stay within their comfort zone.

Wonderful, moving news — well done to everyone and thanks to the owners who realised these beautiful cats needed a different life. It’s inspiring — the message should be sent around, sadly in Australia we still have animals being forced to perform in a circus.

What was the little white furball the tiger was cuddling in the photo on the first page? Really sweet… never saw something like this before!

  • Diane

She’s cuddling one of the enrichment balls — we put toys in with the girls as soon as they arrived, and they seem to love them!

have there ever been a incident where a vistor gotten bitten from any of the animals, have there ever been a emergency in that matter at the arc

  • Dsmith

Visitors do not have access to any of the exotic animals. All animals such as tigers, lions, bears, etc. are behind two fences, the inner one with electric wire running throughout. We’ve never had an animal/visitor emergency at Noah’s Ark.
