Hero of the Month — Julie Larsh
ByIf you see a little red Volkswagen beetle with a flower in the vase in the Noah’s Ark parking lot, it generally means that volunteer Julie Larsh is on duty in the habitat. Julie became a Noah’s Ark volunteer over two years ago – drawn to us by a news report about a very special zebra. “Shortly after hearing about Evidence, my husband and I visited Noah’s Ark, and I knew right away that I wanted to be a volunteer!” Julie exclaims.
She and her husband, John, live in Peachtree City, Georgia. They have five grown children, and Julie’s Mom, Mo, lives with them. “I am so lucky and blessed to have such a beautiful, loving and close-knit family,” she says. “My family means the world to me!”
Julie brings that warm sense of family with her as a volunteer at Noah’s Ark. And she loves to share her “Noah’s Ark stories” with them when she returns home. “The first time I told them about Barney our ostrich who loves to dance, they laughed,” she remembers. “They laughed even more when I tried to imitate his dancing! It wasn’t pretty.”
One of her favorite things about volunteering at Noah’s Ark is relating with the animals on a “first name basis.” She relates, “It’s a thrill to have Hershey, the black bear, or Cheyenne and Dakota, the gray wolves, come to the fence to ‘visit’ with me when I call their names! I learn so much from the animals. Even if they have had difficult lives before coming to Noah’s Ark, they are very forgiving and trusting.”
Thank you, Julie, for the two years of service you’ve given to Noah’s Ark as a dedicated volunteer.
