Why neuter my male pet? Part 3 in a series by Doc T

By

What are the benefits of neutering a male cat?

Male cats that are not neutered develop nasty smelling urine and usually deposit this in and around your house to mark their territory.  If allowed outside they often roam in search of a female, which exposes them to many dangers including cars, dogs, poisons, diseases and getting lost.  Encounters with other male cats leads to fighting, abscesses and the possibility of infection with the Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (Feline Aids).

Why should I bother to neuter my male dog?

Older male dogs that are not neutered are prone to prostate problems.  These can lead to hernias requiring expensive repairs.  There are also rectal tumors and testicular tumors that can be prevented by this surgery.

What if I got my dog for protection?

Studies have shown that neutering reduces dog to dog aggression but does not reduce a dog’s instinct to protect.
