Most altered dogs do develop a lower metabolic rate. This is less likely to happen if the surgery is performed early in life. Reduction in food intake or switching to a lower calorie food can prevent this problem.
I just feed some outside cats. They are not really my cats, why should I get them fixed?
Feral cat populations are a huge problem. A pair of cats can have hundreds of descendants in just a few years. Cat feces and male cat spray becomes an unpleasant health hazard. Cats running in the roads can cause auto accidents. Flea infestations can spread to your house even if the cats are not allowed inside. Even when well fed, cats kill mice and rats (perhaps a good thing) but also birds, lizards and snakes which can lead to an insect explosion.
