Every day, we provide our animal residents with a diverse selection of food to keep them healthy and happy. While much of this food is easy to purchase, some items—like browse—are a bit harder to come by.

What is Browse?

Browse consists of fresh leaves, twigs, and branches from specific trees and shrubs. It’s a vital part of the diet for many leaf-eating herbivores such as goats, lemurs, porcupine, bears, and some primates. Not only is browse nutritious, but it also offers important enrichment, giving animals the chance to engage in natural behaviors like foraging and chewing.

Would you like to contribute to the care of our animals in a simple, meaningful way? If you’re trimming trees or shrubs at home or on your property and the plant is on our approved browse list, we’d love to hear from you. Depending on your location, we can arrange to pickup—or you can drop it off at the sanctuary!

We cannot take any trees or plants that have been treated with a pesticide, even an organic one, as it may be harmful to the animals.
